Club Reduces Power Usage

April 10, 2012  |    Share

Nomad Sports Club embarks on a reduction of electricity usage and its carbon foot print by moving to LED lighting.
The club only has a single phase, 300A circuit supplying all power needs which is working at almost full capacity, especially when the main pitch is lit.

Completed projects include:

Car Park: all the previous 500W l ights have been replaced by 165W induction lights

Tennis courts: replaced 4 of the 400W lights and will replace the rest as they expire. Because of the power savings elsewhere, we have added two extra 165W lights at each end of each court, improving the illumination at the baselines.

Children’s Playground: the three 1000W metal halide lights have been replaced with three 165W induction lights which improved the illumination. Additionally, the Party Hut now has 18W NeonLux tubes instead of the previous 40W fluorescent tubes

Main Bar and Pool Bar: a total of 24 pieces of 35W halogen bulbs have been replaced by the same number of 3W LED bulbs, reducing power consumption by 90%.

Perimeter lights: all 20W CFL bulbs have now been replaced with 10W LED corn lights

GYM: the new gym is illuminated with 18W NeonLux tubes.

Total budget allocated for the above projects is PHP 180,000.

The final step will be the main field which is powered by 36 pieces of 1,000W lighting. Including the ballast, this means every time the lights are on, the club is using 39,600W!

The same illumination can be obtained by using 11,880W of induction bulbs or increase the illumination on the pitch by using some of this saving to add additional lights. This will be studied over the coming months.

The Board of Directors and House and Grounds Committee are actively working to reduce electricity costs for the long-term. - Shiela Ubana
