The passion that both team and devotee bring to the game is unmistakably palpable in tournaments everywhere; and pride in being part of a historic sporting institution is like a badge that they wear on their chest pockets all day.

Elements required in the logo:
It should have the "carabao" logo.
A record-setting number of 169 members cast their votes, in person and by proxy, at the Nomad Sports Club’s Annual General Meeting on December 15, 2012 to elect a new Board of Directors – marking the biggest election turn-out in the club’s recent history.
Nomad Sports Club has unveiled a new logo specially commemorating its 99th year of existence. The phrase “99 NOT OUT” is superimposed in red over the familiar figure of a carabao head with the dates 1914 and 2013 displayed with the NSC name.
“Not out” in cricket means a batsman remains in play and has not yet been dismissed.
The 2013 Board of Directors re-elected Jena F. Fetalino as President, Andy Goitia as Vice-president and Treasurer, and Shiela Ubana as Corporate Secretary last January 7 during the first Board meeting held at Nomad Sports Club.
The Board also re-appointed Brad Hannam as Committee Chairperson, who will continue to be directly involved in the activities of the various club committees as well as coordinate with the Sports Captains.
In line with the warmer, upgraded decoration of the Main Bar, what could be better than to fill it with our lovely lady members?
Step one was to talk to our friends at Forth & Tay to see if they could support us by promoting their Bacardi rum brand.
The outside shower near the small kids pool is used for rinsing before and after use in the pools.Previously it was looking quite shabby and in a bad state so it was rebuilt and retiled, its now is looking good and working fine.
Ladies Soccer has had a huge resurgence from a few years ago. The Nomads Stretchmarks team (mainly made up of mums and kids) joined the first ever Weekend Football League for Ladies 10 months ago. They are now in their second season in the league which comprises of 6 teams.
On January 1st, 2013 Nomads hosted the annual lawn bowls competition known as the Hangover Cup.
This year’s Hangover Cup had 15 players put in to teams consisting of 3 players each. The winners of the 2013 edition of the Hangover Cup were Arlin Colecough, Anders Green and Fat Cat(Steve Arthur).
Last December 16th, Nomads Sports Club held it’s annual President’s Cup lawn bowls competition. This year, 10 teams participated and separated in to two groups with each team playing four first round matches in a round robin style format.
The President’s team consisted of current president Jena Fetalino, joined by former club presidents Roger Dimmell and Matt Freeston.
On 14 December the Nomads Cricket 1st XI recorded a convincing 102 run win over the Philippine Cricketers Club (PCC) to win the 5th edition of the Philippine Cricket League and be crowned national champions for the 3rd time.
In what has been the most successful season on record for Philippine Cricket with the national league now consisting of 12 teams in two divisions, the Nomads triumph was not straightforward.
Nomads had two teams in the 2003 mixed division, with the Nomads A-team (aka The Little Monkeys) led by Sam Taylor which was defending their title from the previous tournament.
[11 January 2013-Merville, Paranaque City] Nomad Sports Club, the oldest and most active sports club in the Philippines, and AtletA Sportswear have announced a partnership agreement where AtletA will become the Official Outfitter of Nomads Football.
The agreement, signed yesterday, calls for AtletA to supply all football uniforms for the Nomads Football program, ranging from the youth teams to the senior team in the UFL.
[10 January 2013-Merville, Paranaque City] Nomad Sports Club, the oldest and most active sports club in the Philippines, has released its 25-man roster for the PFF Smart National Championships.
The team, headed by long-term stalwarts Randy Musters, Steve Borrill, and Phil Connolly has added several new players in an attempt to improve upon its league standing from last year.
The annual Guy Fawkes Event back-to-back with the Rugby SEACup finals was a rousing success. The day commenced with various children’s activities such as games, face painting, a bazaar and a bouncy castle.
In the afternoon, Nomads Rugby defeated Royal Selangor-Kuala Lumpur to win the inaugural SEA CUP games.
The first weekend of November saw the Nomads Junior Football Academy host their 2nd tournament of the year. The Academy entered teams in all age categories Boys 96, 98, 2000, Girls 2000 and mixed 2003.
With over 30 teams entered on a holiday weekend the action was fast and furious.
In May, Nomads had their old badminton flooring replaced with a new tournament-style rubber floor. The old court was a basic painted cement floor which had many cracks and needed to be replaced. The new flooring which is much softer and easier on the knees, has been a major success so far, with an increased turn out of regular members and guests as well.
The weekend of November 17 and 18 saw 24 teams descend onto the Nomads pitch for the annual International 6 –a-Side Tournament. Teams came from all over Asia and a festival of football was served.
Nomads had 4 teams entered, three in the open competition and 1 in the Vets.
Nomad’s rugby team finished the most successful year in memory. The strength in depth and rapidly falling average age of the squad augers well for another strong campaign in 2013.
A commitment to a more structured training regime was bought into by everyone as early as January.
Organized, professional and motivated are three words that one could use to describe Manila Nomads as they arrived at the ground for the German All Stars Bangkok Tournament 2012 held last April at Thailand’s capital city.
However, if we are to be truthful – unorganized, leathered/hung-over and disinterested would probably fit the bill more appropriately.
Carabaos had another successful year in the year of the Dragon with enrollment in the Nomads Junior Football Academy at an all-time high in the six years of its existence. Around a hundred players are registered making children’s football the club’s biggest section.
Four of our Nomads staff recently participated in First Aid Courses organized by the PRFU at the Philsports Stadium. Frankie Pelino, Michael Culalic, Patrick Leonardo and Ruel Magaling all took part in a three day course involving First Aid Training and Basic Life Support Training.

Other cases are pending before the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.
The Nomads sports field is the club's biggest asset which requires maintenance and up-keeping.
Over the last 3 years, we have closed the field during the wet season, undertook major field works to improve drainage and to target bringing out the Bermuda grass as the natural playing surface of the field.
Landscape improvements in the children's playground, swimming pool, reception and the Narra areas took place in May in time for the rainy season. The timing ensures that the plants survive without the scorching heat.
The largely overlooked swimming pool area took an upgrade with the placement of potted palm trees along the bathroom areas.
Nomad Sports Club, the oldest and most active sports club in the Philippines, is pleased to announce the appointment of John Jofre as football manager.
John comes to Nomads after previously holding the managerial role for the Shanghai Shooters of the Shanghai International Football League (SIFL) from 1998-2008.
Despair. When I think of what the club is going through, this word comes to mind.
Reflect on this: a club that aspires for nothing but to own its home is being attacked for reasons beyond comprehension.
After much anticipation and preparation, Nomads finally opened the gym in February.
The gym has several cardio machines ranging from treadmills, stationary bikes, free weights, a bench press and machines for a complete work out.
Nomad Sports Club embarks on a reduction of electricity usage and its carbon foot print by moving to LED lighting. The club only has a single phase, 300A circuit supplying all power needs which is working at almost full capacity, especially when the main pitch is lit.
Members will be aware that during the past three AGM’s, there has been much discussion of the behavior of two members in relation to the well-being of the Club and its Directors.
At the most recent AGM held in December, a motion was proposed and passed by the majority of the members for the Board of Directors to consider disciplinary action against certain members related to the legal actions they have taken.
188 children plus the staff of Philippine Christian Foundation (PCF) held field games in Nomads last February 17. Food was prepared by the Manila Club.
PCF runs a school primarily catering to the children from Smoky Mountain who are among the poorest of the poor in the Philippines.
In the first ever match of the South East Asian Club Cup, Manila Nomads required a gargantuan team effort to overcome a well-drilled and tenacious visiting Jakarta Komodos.
Within the Nomads ranks, the early season opportunity to play 15’s was universally welcomed.

Yes I took a hat of wickets against a touring side from China last November.
Most reports on a tournament would detail the action chronologically, or even start with the premier division, in this case the Cup.
This report; however, is going straight to the big news.
The constant threat that has been hanging like the proverbial sword of Damocles over the heads of eight Nomad Sports Club board members since August last year is finally gone, and the apparent ’injustice’ wrought by an undeserved ‘punishment’ hopefully consigned to oblivion, if not the trash bin.
In yet another strange twist of events, the DOJ (at the request of the SEC through Supervising Commissioner Manuel Gaite), issued a Watch List Order ( WLO ) against the 2008 BOD.
The SEC referred the case initiated by Ed Du to the Department of Justice ( DOJ ), who invited the 2008 board to a preliminary hearing in early 2009.
Nomads recently appointed Eric Antoine as Consultant Manager. He is French/American from Washington DC with a degree on Sports Management from the University of Maryland. He has been in the Philippines for 2 years and has played rugby for Nomads for 2 years.
Club improvements continued in the last semester of the year. The field was returfed by Turf Solutions at a cost of PHP 800,000. More drainage improvements will be made in the next couple of months.
The men's bathroom near the main bar was renovated – the total cost is PHP 448,000.
The final of the Mini Soccer World Cup was eventually concluded when the weather relented in October. TEAM USA captained by Jeff Blake were worthy first time winners defeating England in a closely contested final.
Nomads breezed through the qualifying group of the KIA 7-a-Side Tournament in Alabang Country Club and entered the last 16 with a 100% record last October.

On September 3, Lolong, a 50-year old crocodile was ensnared alive in Agusan del Sur.
In a decision that can only be described as "bizarre", Hon. Fortunito L Madrona of Paranaque Regional Trial Court ruled in favor of Multi-sphere Trading Inc. in overturning the compromise agreement between the latter Nersan Corporation and Nomad Sports Club.
As most members are aware, the club is incurring horrendous legal bills in order to protect our property as a field-based, non-stock, non-profit sports club.
Sadly, all the money we save by not having to pay rent is being used trying to protect the existence of the club.
Nomads claimed the UFL-LBC 2nd division championship trophy with a 9-1 thrashing of Union Internacional Manila June 3rd. The victory gave Nomads an insurmountable lead at the top of the table and a promotion to the 1st division.
The MWSC turned out to be an eventful tournament last May 7-8 with a heavy downpour that rendered the pitch unplayable. The tournament proceeded as long as possible and got through 55 of 59 matches. It was quite an achievement considering the weather conditions.
Members mourned the death of Mang Jun Leonardo who passed away on April 14. Hundreds of members paid their last respects to him during the wake in Our Lady of Beautiful Love Parish Church.
The priest who spoke during the funeral took note of the diversity of people who paid their last respects to Mang Jun – from the very young children to the seniors; from local members to expats; his fellow staff members to current & previous members of the board of directors.
Repair of the tennis section bag shed was finished this month making it a permanent structure. The previous bag shed was in a state of disrepair due to the typhoons last year. A request from the tennis section head, Jake Jordana was made sometime in January to have this improved.
The Zephyr Communications PRFU 15’s League got underway at the Nomad Sports Club May 14 and early markers were put down in their respective divisions by the Alabang Ibons and Nomads.
In the B division match-up, both teams were brimming with youthful promise.
On May 17th a Nomads team lead by acting captain Steve Mommaerts played host to sailors from the American aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, of recent fame for reportedly performing Osama Bin Laden’s burial at sea.
The game started slow with a pack of errors with neither team dominating the early exchanges.
Another brilliant 3-0 win for Nomads FC v Stallions FC last May 15. Led by MOM Randy Musters, Nomads were always in control. Steve Borrill contributed 2 goals and “Nic the Frog” Hacker scored one. Nomads back on top with 1 match left vs Union on May 29.
Last January, I was in a wine store busy choosing the perfect selection of wines to give to my friend as a birthday present.
When I noticed a man in his 20’s going round the shop many times checking every label.
Nomad’s members Faisal Khan, Henry Ahuja, Syed Ali, Gaurav Kaushik, Rana Sameer and Gohar Ali were selected to represent the Philippines at the ICC East Asian Championships held in Apia, Samoa from 4 to 8 April 2011.
The national squad was managed by Gary Powell and coached by Iain Sinclair, both long time Nomads members.

Mark Hartmann is top scorer with 8, followed by Stephen Borrill with 7 and Phil Connolly with 6.
The Swimming Pool Bathrooms both for ladies and gents are scheduled to be upgraded this month. An announcement about the schedule will be made via email and Facebook Update.
Windows of the GENTS’ toilet will also be changed and repaired to provide proper ventilation and more natural light with the installation of skylights.
Can it get any better? That’s the question I ask myself every year, as I look around the Nomad Sports Club grounds, on the Sunday of the Cape Manila 10’s.
The answer thus far has been a resounding “yes” and this year was no exception.
The Manila Indians won the 4th Philippine International Cricket Sixes sponsored by GXD/Tanglewood last February 25-26.
The Cup final pitted the elite of Philippines Cricket against each other, with the Manila Indians against the Manila Diplomats team made up of expats associated with Embassies and international organisations based in Manila.
Completion of repairs and renovations in the club sped up mid March for the club’s biggest event, the Manila 10s.
The Organizers’ Area in front of the Squash Courts was recently given a facelift through repainting, re-wiring, installation of lights and re-lamination of tables and cabinets.
Team Bondi trounced last year’s champions Hong Kong Mobsters, 4 v 0 in the semi finals to book a place in the finals against Beijing Real Ancient. Team Bondi trashed Beijing Real Ancient 4 v 2 in the annual International Veterans 7 -a-side Football Tournament last March 5-6.

On the week commencing February 7, the club received the replies of Ed Du and the Hemlani’s Multisphere Trading Inc.
Sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, Bill Bailey operates the 10s’ like clockwork. The tournament draws rugby players and enthusiasts from all over the country and the world to experience what is dubbed as the “best social rugby tournament in the world”.
Friday 4th of February was a historic day in the history of our club. On this day, the Parañaque Register of Deeds, released the five Transfer Certificates of Title covering the properties being used by our club under the name of “Nomad Sports Club, a non–stock, non-profit organization, duly incorporated under the laws of the Philippines “.
The club gears up for three big tournaments in the next four weeks with the International Cricket Sixes’ scheduled on the 26th and the 27th of February. All cricket fans must watch this tournament. You can visit the Cricket Nomads Facebook page for information and additional announcements.
The bar staff started donning sporty uniforms during the last week of January.
The club provided the gear composed of green top, white shorts and white rubber shoes for both male and female. The staff received the uniform without any resistance to the policy instituted last month.
The rendering and painting of the perimeterwall was completed in 6 weeks at a total cost PHP 347,500. It required coordination with the Merville Homeowners, the MPHA, demolition of weak walls and their reconstruction, rendering and painting. Some portions of theperimeter wall will be allocated for illuminated 16 feet x 4 feet billboard to generate income for the club which will provide a good opportunity for marketers of sports and health products to reach the growing number loving guests to the club.
Manila Club has taken over the food operations at NSC for a renewable one-year period. Manila Club is the oldest club in the Philippines with a 130-year history and was formerly located in Dallas Street, Makati City until end of February this year when their lease contract expired.
A modest improvement was made in the Ladies’ Room near the main bar with the installation of a full length mirror, a cork board for announcements and the change from day light bulbs to warm white lighting.

Nomads v Japan, 2nd Division League Game 30th January: We were losing 2-0 after a dreadful start, however, man of the match (MOM), Stephen Borrill (4) and Phil Connolly (1) carved out a richly deserved 5-2 victory.

Members can now get themselves updated on the latest news about Nomads via Facebook which is being handled for the club by Jeff Blake, the goalkeeper of the Nomads Football A-Team. Information about events are constantly uploaded in the page, including tips on sports health, news and features.
Two more weeks of Eprex and Mang Jun might be given the seal of approval by his Oncologist and Hematologist to proceed with his second round of chemotherapy.
At the moment, Mang Jun’s hemoglobin level is too low for him to go through a brutal round of chemo – this needs to be corrected with a regular doses of Eprex is indicated to which stimulates red blood cell production.
Car stickers for 2011 are now available at the Club reception area and Nomads Club office. To claim your car sticker, you need to bring your car and a photocopy of registration documents of the vehicle to the Club. Our security staff will personally put the sticker on your car/vehicle.
In the first BoD meeting held last January 5, the board bared the plans for implementation this year. It discussed the following for implementation:
CARD SYSTEM - Launch of POS and membership system using the Legato Member Management System. Courtesy Point is the company appointed by Nomads to institute the program, installation and training of the back office.
In a meeting held last January 5, the Board of Directors elected its new officers, with Jena F. Fetalino as President, Jonathan Thorp as Vice President and Treasurer, and Andy Goitia as Corporate Secretary. Brad Hannam was unanimously appointed as Committee Head.
Over 82 teams participated in last week’s CASHSENSE CUP which was dominated by Nomads. Nomads beat ABC Team in the U-18 ; Tondo Futkalera beat Nasugbo in the U-16; Nomads beat La Salle in the U-14 and Nomads won over ABC Naga in the Girls U-16 Girls’ Category.
More than 40 members turned up to vie for The Lawn Bowls’ Section’s President’s Cup trophy last December 19. The underrated team of Shane Cosgrove, Tom Whitwell, Darren Williams and Ian Taylor clobbered the Lawless Team composed of Peter Lawless and his family 13-3 in a big upset during the finals.
2011 marks the 2nd year of the Nomads Moonwalk Entrance built in 2009 and formally opened to members in April the same year.
In 2009, discussions were made with Bob Horan from Sports Turf Solutions (TST) about the state of the pitch and the constant battering it gets day after day. The field did not have the correct species of turf to cope with the use its gets - ( it had something like 8 species of grass and weeds-).
We all closed 2010 with a wild finish, but what a way to start the new year.
