2011: Major Year for Nomads Football

December 16, 2011  |    Share

The final of the Mini Soccer World Cup was eventually concluded when the weather relented in October. TEAM USA captained by Jeff Blake were worthy first time winners defeating England in a closely contested final.

Nomads breezed through the qualifying group of the KIA 7-a-Side Tournament in Alabang Country Club and entered the last 16 with a 100% record last October. Three more victories later and Nomads were in the final versus old enemies Kaya FC which include several Azkals. 38 of the country's finest football teams participated.

Nomads striker Phil Connolly scored in the 1st half and despite Aly Borromeo's team huffing and puffing, Nomads was never going to be denied and a large crowd greeted the final whistle with loud applause. A tremendous start to the new football season for Nomads FC. Goalkeeper Jeff Blake and MVP Phil Connolly were quite outstanding.

The November International 6-a-Side Tournament was again a resounding success. Many thanks to Shane Cosgrove who has taken over from Andy Yates as organizer.

There was a new winner this year when ANATOLIA BANGKOK defeated all comers including two Nomads sides on their way to a deserved victory.

The UFL Cup got under way with Nomads winning all their group matches. In the quarter final a wonder goal from Randy Musters (or was it supposed to be a cross?) saw Nomads defeat Pasargad at the Rizal Stadium. Then came a quarter final against Kaya, where a lackluster Nomads performance led to a 3-0 defeat.

The UFL league will start in January and many of the Nomads games will be televised on AKTV. C'mon Nomads!
